Chapter 1

My lavish wedding to Lucy Lu cost a fortune.

That very night, she ditched me for her ex, Mark Lin, who claimed to have severe depression.

I showed up at Mark’s house with a chainsaw, ready to rip the door off its hinges and talk divorce.

Mark held a knife to his throat, eyes red-rimmed. “I’ll give Lucy back to you. My life means nothing compared to… my brother-in-law’s feelings.”

Lucy was distraught, threatening me, “If you drive Mark to suicide, I’ll make you pay!”

Later, Lucy caught me messing around with her best friend, Susan.

Tears welled in her eyes. “Chase, let’s forget this ever happened. We can still make it work.”

“No way. She’ll kill herself if she doesn’t see me. You’re such a saint, you wouldn’t let her die, right?”

I stood there, chainsaw in hand, the freshly-cut door splinters falling at my feet. Lucy was cuddled up with Mark.

We’d just had a fairytale wedding.

But Mark’s suicide attempt had Lucy running to him on our wedding night, ignoring my calls.

“Mark’s depression was all an act. Now, will you come home?”

I forced down the bile rising in my throat, tossed the chainsaw aside, and shoved my phone in Lucy’s face.

The video showed their “therapist” admitting he was a paid actor, and her anti-depressants were just vitamins.

Case closed.

But Lucy just glanced at it, convinced I was smearing her beloved.

“Chase, you can’t twist Mark’s illness just because you’re jealous.”

My nose burned. “Do you remember it’s our wedding night?”

“I know you’re hurt. But Mark has severe depression. He loves me, he’ll kill himself without me. You can’t expect me to watch him die.”

Lucy sighed, reaching for my hand.

Mark frowned and stopped her. “Lucy, even touching him makes me sick to my stomach.”

“Fine, Mr. Jealous. I won’t touch him. Happy now?”

Lucy pulled back, settling back into Mark’s arms, nuzzling his nose.

“Don’t kiss him where I can’t see you. Don’t sleep with him. It makes me sick.”

“Okay, okay, anything you say.”

Watching them, my heart sank.

I was always the popular guy in school, drowning in love letters.

But orphaned since childhood, those affections felt childish and annoying. All I cared about was scholarships and scraping by.

When Lucy confessed her feelings, I didn’t even look up to reject her.

Then some jealous classmates tried to beat me up and… well, you can imagine the rest.

Lucy was the one who called the cops, delaying them long enough to get herself injured badly. She spent months in the hospital.

For the first time since my parents died, I felt overwhelming love.

When I finally agreed to date her, she jumped for joy.

Ten years of love, her family finally approved, and I thought we were finally happy.

But her ex was back, and I was expendable.

I put my phone away, tears welling. “Lucy, we’re getting a divorce!”

Mark looked stunned. “Dude, you’re divorcing her now? You want everyone to think I broke up your marriage?”

He blushed, pushing Lucy away, grabbing a knife from his drawer, and holding it to his throat.

“I’ll kill myself. I’ll give Lucy back to you. Happy now?”

Lucy lunged, snatching the knife and throwing it at me in a fit of rage. “Enough, Chase! If something happens to Mark, I’ll kill you too!”

I couldn’t dodge it. The blade grazed my neck, leaving a deep gash.

Blood dripped onto the floor.

Strange… the cut’s on my neck, but my heart aches.

Lucy panicked, rushing to me. “Chase, are you okay? I didn’t mean to…”

Slap!

I looked at her coldly. “Lucy, we’re done.”

Chapter 2

Lucy’s lip trembled, but Mark’s whine of pain distracted her. She instantly rushed to his side.

I went to the hospital, my shirt stained crimson.

Well, not alone.

Susan met me on the way, insisting on staying.

“Even as Lucy’s best friend, I can’t stand her. How can she be so cruel? If you were my husband, I’d cherish you, not repeatedly cheat and hurt you!”

The Susans were ultra-rich. People said she had a terrible temper.

But Lucy’s friends looked down on me; Susan was the only one kind to me.

I stopped. “Repeatedly cheated?”

Susan hesitated. “I don’t want to badmouth my friend, but…Lucy’s trips abroad, missing your birthdays, ignoring your illness… she was with Mark.”

I thought Lucy only changed after Mark’s return.

She’d been cheating the whole time, just good at hiding it.

“Are you okay?”

Susan nervously took my hand, blushing as she released it.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to overstep. Lucy’s behavior is unforgivable. I’m worried about you.”

“I appreciate your concern.”

I wasn’t stupid; I saw her interest.

I usually avoided it, but this time, I hesitated only a moment before taking her hand again, intertwining our fingers.

Susan bit her lip, her eyes full of affection.

This was my first flirtation, and I felt guilty, avoiding her gaze.

After getting my wound treated, I went home to pack.

Susan was considerate, dropping me off and leaving.

Before leaving, she apologized profusely. “Lucy never considers others’ feelings. I’m more understanding. If you need someone to talk to, or any help, just call me!”

I packed my things, took off my ring, printed and signed the divorce papers, leaving them on the table, and left.

The housekeeper couldn’t stop me, frantically calling Lucy.

She didn’t care.

I was an orphan; she was from a wealthy family. She assumed I wouldn’t leave.

Lucy had my work suspended.

A major deal I’d secured went to Mark.

She sent a condescending message:

【You’re too successful, it puts pressure on Mark. Take a break from work. Behave. I promise you can still be a Lu son-in-law, giving you a home, even without parents.】

I wanted a home, but not with anyone.

I waited for Lucy to sign the divorce papers.

Then, our lives would be separate.

But she didn’t sign. Her friends gossiped about her and Mark.

She donated millions in Mark’s name, praying for him.

She bought him limited-edition cars, making local news.

She crafted diamond rings for him because he envied my wedding ring.

I was disgusted. I found Lucy, but her assistant said she was away on business.

I called her. She sighed wearily.

“I loved Mark, but that’s over. I just feel sorry for him now. Don’t be jealous. Don’t divorce me over this. You wanted to support that orphanage, right? I donated $20,000. Let’s drop it.”

She said she had a meeting and hung up.

Then Mark sent me photos of her showering in a hotel bathroom.

【I asked Lucy who she liked more, she said I’m bigger and she wants to die under me.】

Even knowing Lucy had crossed the line, those photos stunned me.

I calmed down, screenshotted the messages and sent them to everyone, including my friends.

I called Susan, meeting her at a hotel room.

She liked cheating, right?

Fine, I’d indulge Lucy.

Susan arrived quickly, seemingly dressed up, her figure accentuated.

After showering, she asked, “Meeting here… What if Lucy sees us and misunderstands?”

“Sleeping together doesn’t count as a misunderstanding.”

I pulled her close, kissing her.

The seduction came naturally, but with our size difference, I hesitated.

I was afraid she might be uncomfortable.

I released Susan, sitting on the bed, wanting to stop.

She came closer, pressing me down. “So that’s what you like, Chase.”
