After the miscarriage, my best friend and I divorced at the same time

Chapter 1
My best friend and I, we both married into ridiculously wealthy families.
I married the brilliant doctor brother; she married the icy CEO brother.
On our wedding day, Luke Harrison suddenly disappeared, off to find his ex-girlfriend’s dog.
My grandma had a heart attack from the stress. I begged him to come back and save her.
He snapped, “Sarah, are you crazy? You’d curse your only family member just to get me back? Chloe’s dog is missing, I’m helping her. The wedding can be rescheduled.”
They found the dog; I lost my grandma forever.
I passed out from crying. When I woke up, I asked my best friend, “Willow, I’m getting a divorce. What about you?”
My best friend hugged me, sobbing, “Me too!”
The Harrison brothers were both heartbroken when they received our divorce papers.
…
“Luke Harrison, we’re getting a divorce.”
I’d barely sent the message when his call came in.
“Sarah, you’re full of surprises. Yesterday, you faked grandma’s death, today it’s divorce threats. Is a wedding that important?”
“I already told you, Chloe’s dog ran off. She was frantic. That dog’s been with her for years. It’s important to her. Besides, it’s a living thing! What’s your problem? Have a heart!”
His accusations were gut-wrenching.
Yesterday was our wedding. Luke took a call and left.
Grandma had a heart attack. I rushed her to the hospital. The doctors said only Luke could perform the surgery. I called him.
Ten calls before he answered.
“Honey, Grandma’s having a heart attack! Come to the hospital!”
Luke yelled, “She’s your only family. You’d curse her to get me to the wedding? Are you even human?”
“Chloe’s dog is missing. I’m looking for it. Don’t call again.”
I cried, “No, it’s true! Grandma’s waiting for you! Only you can operate! Please, come!”
He sounded impatient, “Stop the drama. It’s just a wedding. I’ll reschedule after I find Chloe’s dog. Leave me alone!”
He hung up.
I was about to call back when I saw Grandma’s heart monitor flatten.
Grandma was gone.
I never had parents. Grandma raised me.
Without her, I wouldn’t be here.
Grief overwhelmed me. I fainted. Willow stayed by my side.
When I woke up, divorce was my only choice.
Since Chloe came back, Luke’s heart had belonged to her.
He claimed overtime, really seeing Chloe.
He never liked or commented on my social media posts. If I asked, he called me childish. Chloe posted, and he was all over it.
I thought we had forever, that his heart would come back.
But I only got the silent treatment. He was increasingly impatient with me.
The night we got our marriage license, he was with Chloe, watching the moon.
Whenever Chloe called, he’d drop everything.
When my appendix burst and I was writhing in pain, he called me dramatic and weak. Chloe cut herself, he rushed her to the ER.
Chloe was his Achilles heel.
I knew I couldn’t compete with Chloe, but I never imagined my grandma’s life was less valuable than her dog.
On the phone, Luke continued, “Chloe says the dog’s traumatized. We’re taking a trip to relax. We’ll talk when I get back.”
Willow snatched the phone. “Luke Harrison, Sarah’s grandma is dead! If you have an ounce of decency, come see her one last time!”
Chapter 2
Luke paused.
“Sarah’s crazy! She cursed her own grandma! Tell her to stop the games. I’ll be back when I’m done.”
He hung up.
Willow gave me back my phone. I saw Chloe’s post.
She was at the beach, hugging the dog, smiling.
Caption: “兜兜” almost disappeared, but Daddy found him! We’re so happy!
I smiled bitterly, tears flowing. The irony was crushing.
He wouldn’t save my grandma, but he was vacationing with his ex and her dog.
Our marriage was accidental.
He was Grandma’s doctor. She needed a huge sum for her medical bills. I was desperate. Luke offered to pay, in exchange for being my girlfriend.
His parents were pressuring him, and he needed a fake girlfriend.
I agreed. I fell for him.
Since Willow was marrying his brother, I thought being sisters-in-law would be nice. I pursued him, and we got together.
Seeing me cry, Willow hugged me.
“Sarah, don’t be sad. He’s not worth it.”
Grandma’s loss was unbearable.
My voice choked, “Willow, I’ve lost Grandma.”
Willow patted my back, “You have me. I’ll always be here.”
I nodded.
Willow and I have been inseparable since childhood, closer than sisters.
Willow’s phone rang. It was Liam Harrison.
Willow and Liam’s marriage was a business deal. After the wedding, his scandals never stopped. Willow didn’t believe him, until last night’s photos surfaced of him in another country with an actress.
Willow answered, hearing Liam’s annoyed voice, “Willow, I just landed, and you’re starting a fight?”
“I just happened to be at the same restaurant, same shop, same hotel room as that actress. It wasn’t what the media says. You’re making a big deal out of nothing! Are you done?”
Willow scoffed, “Coincidence? Dinner, shopping, same hotel room? Liam, don’t act like I’m an idiot!”
Liam was unconcerned, “The media’s twisting things. I didn’t do anything wrong. Believe what you want. Divorce whenever you want.”
Willow was furious, “Liam… beep!”
He hung up.
She wiped her tears, “They’re brothers. Same scumbag! We’re getting divorced! Away from these jerks!”
I knew she was heartbroken. It was a business deal, but she loved him. She learned to cook for him, even though she’d never done it before.
He was out of the country on his birthday, so she flew for hours just to celebrate with him. She stayed up late to help him work.
But Liam found her clingy, annoying.
We both cried.
After Grandma’s funeral, I texted Luke, asking when he was free for the divorce.
He replied after a long time.
“Sarah, how long will you play this game? You’re mad about me leaving the wedding. We’re already married! The wedding doesn’t matter.”
“Keep this up, and I’ll agree to the divorce. Then you’ll cry.”
Chapter 3
I’d asked for a divorce before. Seeing him upset, I’d always back down. He thought this was another tantrum.
I replied, “Luke Harrison, I’m serious. Let’s divorce. 9:30 AM tomorrow, at the courthouse.”
Luke replied instantly, “Fine. If you want a divorce, I’ll give you one.”
I didn’t reply.
The next morning, Willow and I arrived early. Luke and Chloe showed up soon after.
Luke and Chloe dated in college, broke up due to a misunderstanding. But years later, he still couldn’t let her go.
Seeing Chloe’s dog, remembering Grandma, pain stabbed me.
Luke glanced at me, about to go inside.
I said calmly, “Wait. Willow’s getting a divorce too. Liam isn’t here yet.”
Luke frowned, “Sarah, are you making a scene, just to ruin everything?”
Willow yelled, “I want a divorce! It’s not Sarah’s fault! You know what kind of person your brother is! You two are both rotten!”
Chloe smiled slightly, “Ms. Willow, we only mean well. Why be so rude?”
She turned to me, “Luke just doesn’t want you to make a rash decision due to Ms. Shen’s influence.”
I glared at Chloe, “Is Luke mute? When did you become his spokesperson?”
Chloe looked at Luke, her eyes welling up.
“I’m sorry, Luke. I said something wrong and upset Ms. Shen.”
Luke said sternly, “Sarah, enough.”
I rolled my eyes.
Luke seemed displeased, scolding me, “How did Chloe offend you? You stopped me from helping her find her dog, and now you’re targeting her.”
Chloe softly said, “Ms. Shen, don’t misunderstand, Luke was only helping me find “兜兜.” We’re nothing.”
“But you shouldn’t curse your grandma to get him back. It’s bad luck, especially for someone her age.”
Luke looked down on me, “Your grandma loved you. Sarah, you’re a viper.”
I took out Grandma’s death certificate.
“Luke Harrison, look closely. My grandma is dead. She’s dead!”
“The day you were finding Chloe’s dog, Grandma had a heart attack. I begged you to save her, and you refused! You thought Chloe’s dog was more important than my grandma’s life. You have the nerve to call me names?”
Luke glanced at the certificate, sneering, “I’m her doctor. I know her condition better than you. I didn’t expect you to fake a death certificate to manipulate me. I’m so disappointed in you.”
“I know you don’t want a divorce. This fake certificate is meant to make me soften up. Don’t think I’ll fall for it. You’re the one who said you wanted a divorce!”
I closed my eyes, exhausted. I didn’t care what he thought.
“Luke Harrison, you’re an idiot!”
His face darkened. I’d never cursed him before.
Before he could speak, Liam arrived.
Willow and I exchanged glances, walking inside.
Few people were in line. We got the divorce papers quickly.
Luke kept staring at me. He wanted me to beg him to stay. I didn’t. I wouldn’t even look at him.
Outside, Chloe’s dog lunged at me. I instinctively shoved it away.
“Don’t hurt “兜兜!” Chloe rushed over to protect her dog, falling.
Luke caught Chloe, asking anxiously,
“Chloe, are you okay?”
He angrily looked at me, “Sarah, apologize to Chloe.”
I ignored him and walked away.
Luke chased me, reaching for my arm. He stumbled, pushing me down the steps.
“Ah!”
I screamed, protecting my belly, but it was too late.
“My stomach hurts…”
Willow ran to me, seeing me clutching my stomach, her eyes red.
“Sarah, don’t be scared. You’ll be okay.”
She called emergency services, shouting at Luke, “Luke Harrison, Sarah’s pregnant! You pushed her!”
Luke saw the blood, his pupils constricting. He froze.
