Chapter 1

My best friend, Lily, was obsessed with these crazy online marriage trends. She wanted me to divorce my boyfriend of four years and marry her boyfriend’s super-hot older brother.

“Best friends should always stick together! We can all live together after the wedding, what’s so bad about that?”

I refused, so she tricked me into a hotel room, trying to force the issue.

I fought back, and she accidentally killed me.

Then, I woke up back on the day Lily suggested this crazy double wedding.

I smiled.

“What’s the big deal about a double wedding with your bestie? These days, it’s all about mother-daughter weddings!”

“…Chen Xiong is so handsome, way better looking than your boyfriend…”

“Most importantly, we’ll be family, and we can live together afterwards. What’s wrong with that?”

Lily was whispering sweet nothings in my ear, trying to convince me.

The pain from my skull being smashed by an ashtray was still fresh in my mind.

Seeing Lily’s calculating eyes, I was dazed.

I had been reborn.

Lily loved reading novels and getting caught up in online trends.

When “rough-around-the-edges man” novels were hot, she wanted to marry a rugged country guy and get rich together.

When “death” novels were trendy, she tried to jump off a building after a fight with her boyfriend, hoping he’d regret it.

Now, she was obsessed with double weddings, wanting me and her to marry into the same family.

Last time, on this very day, Lily brought her boyfriend’s ridiculously attractive older brother, Chen Xiong. She didn’t just want to introduce us, she wanted me to break up with my boyfriend of four years and hook up with Chen Xiong.

I refused, and she started stirring things up, saying I looked down on Chen Xiong. She goaded him into seriously injuring me. My boyfriend arrived just in time, saving my life.

She didn’t give up. She lured me to a hotel, hoping to force the issue.

I fought back, preventing him from succeeding, but enraged Chen Xiong even more. He pinned me down and beat me with an ashtray.

I clearly remember feeling my skull crack, the blood flowing…

I died a slow, agonizing death.

Afterward, Lily stripped me naked, took pictures, and sent them to my boyfriend and family, claiming I was seducing men.

She blackmailed my parents, demanding a huge sum of money or she’d release the photos.

To protect my reputation, my parents sold everything they owned.

Lily took the money and then released the photos anyway.

Overnight, I became a pariah online. My parents suffered strokes and died quietly at home.

My boyfriend, trying to get revenge on Lily, was pushed off a building.

Lily framed my boyfriend for my murder, claiming I cheated and he killed me in a fit of rage.

Even after my death, the online hate continued. They called me a shameless slut, said my parents died of shame, and called my boyfriend a pervert.

Lily, meanwhile, lived a lavish life with her husband and child.

Now, here I was, back on the day she brought Chen Xiong.

Chen Xiong was openly checking me out, his gaze lecherous.

“What’s so great about your current boyfriend? With me, I guarantee you’ll die of pleasure!”

“Yvette, Chen Xiong is such a great guy. You wouldn’t possibly turn him down, would you?”

Lily nudged me, just like last time, trying to goad me.

She knew I wouldn’t agree.

So, provoking Chen Xiong into assaulting me was her best bet.

I pushed her hand away, fighting back the nausea and the urge to fight, and stood up, smiling.

“Of course not! You’re absolutely right.”

“I’ll call my boyfriend… ex-boyfriend… and break up with him right now!”

“That useless bum! I cooked him a few meals, and he complained about my cooking and dumped me! I’m so sick of him!”

“Oh, you haven’t eaten yet? I made some dessert. Let me get it for you.”

I went into the kitchen and brought out a bowl of yesterday’s leftover food, a thick, stinky mess.

“Dig in, don’t be shy!”

2

It was a disgusting mix of leftover soup and rice, emitting a foul odor.

Lily almost threw up; her face turned green.

“Yvette, what the hell are you doing?”

“What do you mean? This is a delicious dessert I spent hours making!”

I put on a serious face, gritting my teeth.

“Don’t tell me you’re also like that dog of a man, complaining about my cooking?”

Lily looked at me and then at Chen Xiong’s disgusted expression; she started to panic.

“I think you’re just faking it! Stop it!”

“You don’t like dessert? Then I’ll cut you some watermelon.”

With that, I grabbed a kitchen knife and swung it at Lily’s head.

“Ah!” Lily screamed and ran.

She hid behind Chen Xiong, and I got even more excited, chasing her, swinging the knife, even destroying the sofa.

Chen Xiong hid, asking Lily,

“Is she crazy?!”

“No, she’s definitely faking it!” Lily insisted.

I got furious and grabbed her hair, pulling out a chunk.

“Who dares call me crazy?! I’m not crazy at all!”

Lily was crying from the pain, seeing me coming at her with the knife, she hid under a chair.

Chen Xiong, seeing this, gave Lily a nasty look.

“I’ll settle the score with you later!”

Then, he stormed out.

Even a hot guy like him wasn’t going to fight a crazy woman with a knife.

“She’s faking it! Believe me!” Lily shouted.

I squatted, holding the knife, tilting my head and smiling at her.

“Lily, what are you doing under there? Come out and play!”

Lily trembled and pushed the chair at me before running away.

“You wait! I’ll get you back!”

After she left, I put the knife away.

She loved double weddings, didn’t she?

This time, I’d watch her get what she deserved.

As I expected, Lily didn’t give up.

A few days later, she called.

“Yvette, are you still mad?”

“Mad about what?” I asked.

“I know bringing Chen Xiong over was wrong…my boyfriend forced me to!”

“I’m sorry, okay? I booked a hotel room. Let’s have dinner tonight, and I’ll apologize in person, okay?”

Lily was trying to be nice.

“I also got you a gift, that gold necklace you always wanted.”

She sent me a picture of the necklace and the hotel location.

She really went all out to lure me into a trap.

I smiled and said, “Okay.”

After hanging up, I forwarded the picture and location to her mother with this message:

“Aunt, Lily bought you a gold necklace! She said she has a surprise for you tonight.”

Her mother was thrilled and said she’d be there.

Lily’s mother was a lonely widow. When it came to being ruthless, the mother and daughter were cut from the same cloth.

Last time, I almost escaped the hotel, but I bumped into Lily’s mother. I asked for help, but she knocked me unconscious and dragged me back to hell.

After my death, I learned Lily’s mother was involved in the whole plot.

3

Lily and I were friends for years, and I treated her mother like a second mom.

I always gave her gifts for holidays.

Even when her mother was injured and hospitalized, and Lily couldn’t be there, I rushed her to the hospital and stayed up all night caring for her.

I begged her to let me go, but she just scoffed.

“My daughter is trying to help you find a good home, what’s the problem?”

Since that “good home” was so great, this time, she could enjoy it herself.

That night, I arrived at the hotel on time.

As soon as I got to the room, I saw Lily excitedly showing off her phone, with her family bursting in.

“Yvette! I invited you for a celebration, how dare you seduce a man in a hotel room!”

Lily screamed.

Her family chimed in.

“Oh my, my son is still young! He hasn’t even held another girl’s hand, and you’ve taken advantage of him!”

“You need to take responsibility for my son!”

Two figures were embracing on the bed, Lily gestured to her boyfriend to pull back the covers.

The next moment, she froze.

“Mom? What are you doing here?!”

Lily’s mother woke up, blushing, grabbing the covers.

“Isn’t this the surprise you got for me?”

Before Lily could speak, Chen Xiong’s mother exploded.

“What do you mean? You promised to find a wife for my son, but you sent your own mother to my son’s bed?!”

“Did you do this on purpose?!”

She slapped Lily hard.

Lily covered her face, then shouted.

“It’s Yvette! I’ll call her right now!”

As the phone rang, I walked into the room.

“Oh, so Aunt and you… have this kind of relationship.”

I said with a teasing tone.

Lily rushed at me. “Did you do this?!”

“What did I do?” I pretended to be clueless.

“You said you had a surprise, but I thought Aunt hasn’t seen you in a while, so I saved the surprise for her, hoping you two could get together.”

“But who knew…Chen Xiong would be here?”

Lily’s face turned green.

“Don’t you like double weddings?” I smiled.

“Isn’t this great? You and your aunt can marry into the same family, it’s perfect!”

“Shut up!” Lily glared at me, then turned to her mother.

“Let’s just pretend this never happened…”

“Oh, that won’t work,” I wouldn’t let her cover it up.

“Aunt’s innocence is gone, your boyfriend’s family has to take responsibility, right?”

I looked at Lily’s mother. “Don’t you agree?”

Lily’s mother blushed. “Of course!”

“Mom! Stop making trouble!” Lily went crazy.

“What trouble? Mom will get married with you, what’s wrong with that?”

Lily’s mother agreed with me.

She had been lonely for years.

She liked to flirt with younger guys, but they wouldn’t go out with her.

Now the opportunity was right in front of her, she wouldn’t miss it.

Lily’s mother looked at the sleeping man next to her, her eyes full of love.

After that day, Lily’s mother insisted on marrying Chen Xiong.

She even threatened to withhold Lily’s dowry if the Chen family refused.

To avoid trouble, I took a month-long business trip.

When I returned, Lily was waiting for me.

“Yvette! You bitch, you ruined my life, and you dare hide from me!”

“Because of you, my mom wants to get married with me! She won’t give me the dowry! You have to take responsibility!”

She brought her boyfriend and Chen Xiong with her.

They looked menacing.

It looked like they were here to collect a debt.

Lily looked arrogant. “If you don’t clean up this mess, you’ll regret it!”

I paused, didn’t fight back, and asked.

“What do you want me to do?”

Lily stated her demands immediately.

“Don’t you have two houses slated for demolition? Give me one, so I can buy a new house.”

Chen Xiong added, “And marry me today!”

4

Lily nodded.

“That’s right, take your ID and go to the civil affairs bureau with Chen Xiong and get married, so my mom can give up!”

I didn’t refuse immediately, feigning hesitation.

“This isn’t good, right? Aunt seems to like Chen Xiong, aren’t you forcing me to ruin her marriage?”

“If I really go, what about Aunt’s happiness for the rest of her life?”

“Happiness my ass!”

Lily was stressed, and she was even more angry now.

“That old hag is crazy! She’s almost fifty, and she wants to be my sister-in-law!”

“If she marries into our family, I’ll lose all face!”

“Aunt has been so good to you, how can you say that?” I disagreed.

“I’m her only daughter, it’s her duty! She’s almost fifty, and she’s still flirting around! If it wasn’t for the dowry, I wouldn’t bother with her.”

Since her mother wasn’t there, Lily was even more unrestrained, venting her anger.

She realized it was inappropriate and tried to grab my hand.

“No, let’s go to the civil affairs bureau now!”

I stepped back, before they got angry, I smiled sweetly.

“Marriage can wait, let’s talk about transferring the house first.”

“My parents just gave me the property deed.”

Hearing about the transfer, Lily’s boyfriend’s eyes lit up, and he pushed her.

Lily looked at me suspiciously.

“You’re agreeing so easily, are you trying to trick us?”

“I think we should get married first!”

“We can get married anytime, but transferring the property is troublesome, I’m doing this for you guys so you can get the demolition money quickly,”

I was sincere, winking at the two behind her. “We’ll be family soon anyway.”

They seemed convinced.

Lily’s boyfriend coughed. “Let’s transfer the property first.”

For him, getting the money was more important than his brother’s marriage.

Lily still felt uneasy, but her boyfriend looked confident.

“We’ll be watching you, she can’t pull any tricks!”

I pretended not to hear them and invited them inside.

After they settled down, I said, “Wait here, I’ll get the property deed and other documents.”

I locked the door.

I took a screenshot of the security footage from the doorway and sent it to Lily’s mother.

“If you don’t come over, Lily will make me marry Chen Xiong!”

I waited for Lily’s mother to arrive.

A few minutes later, I didn’t come out, Lily got anxious.

“Open the door! Does it take this long to find a property deed? Are you playing tricks on us!”

She yelled and banged on the door.

“I forgot where I put the key to the safe, just wait a minute,” I pretended to be in a hurry.

“Open the door, let’s find it together,” Lily didn’t believe me.

I wanted to stall, but Lily wouldn’t buy it.

“Hurry up! You’re hiding something!”

“Believe it or not, I’ll break down the door!?”

I didn’t say anything.

I was living alone; my doors and windows were made of special material, they couldn’t break them.

I checked the living room security camera; Lily called her boyfriend and Chen Xiong to help her break down the door.

The lock remained untouched.

Lily was even angrier, “If you don’t come out, I’ll smash your house!”

I still didn’t speak.

There was nothing valuable in the house, if they broke it, it was better than losing my life.

I checked my phone; it was almost time.

Before Lily smashed anything, there was a knock on the door.

“Open up! Lily, get out here!”

It was Lily’s mother.

I used the smart lock to open the door.
