My girlfriend has a crush on my brother-in-law

Chapter 1
My little sister, Sarah, just got engaged, and I posted a video on Facebook to congratulate her.
My best friend, Emily, who swears she’s never getting married, saw it and immediately messaged me:
“Is the guy a Dr. Peterson from the City General Hospital?”
“Over six feet tall, like twenty-seven years old?”
“Doctor family for generations, gotta be worth millions?”
I was about to ask how she knew so much.
Her next message popped up:
“Ceremony’s not finished yet, right? You gotta mess this up!”
“Don’t let them get married! Get him for me!”
1.
I chuckled at Emily’s message and typed back:
“Don’t be ridiculous, it’s my sister’s big day.”
The second I hit send, my phone rang. It was Emily, her voice all high-strung.
I answered, and she practically shouted, “I’m not kidding! I’m serious!”
“Hurry, tell me the address! I’m coming over right now!”
“You, you go up there and stop them! Don’t let this happen!”
I was stunned, the smile freezing on my face.
“Are… are you serious?”
Emily’s three years older than me, thirty-four. She’s always called herself a commitment-phobe, said she’d never get married or have kids.
At first, I figured she was just saying it. But then I got married, she stayed single. I had a kid, she stayed single. My kid was practically running laps, and she was still single.
That’s when I realized she really meant it. She was rock-solid about it.
But now…
Someone who’s been so dead-set for so long suddenly wants to steal my sister’s fiancé? I couldn’t wrap my head around it, and honestly, I didn’t want to.
I was praying she’d burst out laughing any second and say, “You’re so gullible, you believed that!”
But it didn’t happen. Her voice, cranked up a few octaves, came at me, a mile a minute.
“Of course I’m serious! I’ve had my eye on him for weeks!”
“I went to the ER a couple weeks ago, and he was my doctor.”
“A ‘celebrity’ doctor, good family, and not bad-looking. He’s my type.”
“After the appointment, I gave him my number.”
“I told him to add me, give him a chance to ask me out.”
Emily paused, and I could hear the frustration in her voice.
“The jerk never even added me!”
“And not only didn’t he add me, but he was secretly getting engaged to your sister!”
She sounded close to hyperventilating.
“You have to stop them! Don’t let them finish the ceremony!”
“That man is mine!”
Emily hadn’t mentioned any of this to me.
But from the sound of it, she barely knew him! They were just strangers in the ER!
My brain felt like mush, and I instinctively tried to reason with her.
“He and Sarah have been dating for over two years, they’re really solid.”
“He’s not going to add you, and this engagement can’t be stopped, you need to chill…”
She cut me off before I could finish.
“Solid my ass!”
“Your sister’s just a kid, she’s not half as good as me. She doesn’t deserve Dr. Peterson!”
“He was only with her for two years because he hadn’t met me yet!”
“She wants to get married, wants to keep leading him on, she’s got another thing coming! I won’t allow it!”
“Don’t give me any crap, just text me the address! I’m getting a ride right now!”
What a joke!
She thought he was her “type,” but did he even like her?
He didn’t even add her on social media, they aren’t even friends.
She was getting ahead of herself.
My tone turned icy.
“Sarah isn’t as bad as you say! She and my future brother-in-law are perfect for each other!”
“I’m not giving you the address. Stay away!”
I was about to hang up, but she screamed.
“Rachel, don’t you dare!”
“I’m telling you, this is about the rest of my life!”
“If you stop me, ruin my chance at love, I’m going to make you pay!
“Just send me the address! Don’t make me yell!”
Seriously!
It was about her finding him attractive, not the other way around.
She didn’t even have his phone number, they weren’t even acquaintances.
It was never going to happen.
I didn’t want to listen to her nonsense anymore, I hung up and hoped she calmed down.
2.
The ceremony and dinner at the hotel wrapped up an hour later.
My loser programmer husband got called back to the office to work overtime.
I was going to go back to my parents’ house with my daughter.
It sounded like they had a few more “wedding” traditions to take care of.
But my daughter didn’t want to go.
She’s got poor self control, the fact that she behaved this long was an accomplishment.
I didn’t want to pressure my daughter.
After sending my family home, I took my daughter to the nearby shopping center, because I promised to buy her a toy for behaving herself.
On the way there, I turned off the airplane mode I turned on when I got the first call from Emily.
As soon as I turned it off, my phone blew up:
“Rachel, how dare you hang up on me!”
“Answer the phone, answer the phone, dammit answer the phone!”
“I’m giving you one last chance! Answer the phone and give me the address!”
“3!”
“2!”
“1!”
“Ahhhhh, Rachel, you piece of trash, you’re dead to me!
“You’re ruining the only chance I’ll ever have at being happy, you’re ruining my life!”
“Ah! That man is mine!”
“I’ve been single for so long, I finally found a man that checks all my boxes!”
“I’ve been waiting for him, he’s meant to be mine!”
“You! You trash! Pick up the phone! Answer the phone! Ahhhhhhhhh!”
…
I was stunned at the stream of insults, a wave of dread and shock washed over me.
After knowing her for all these years, I’ve never seen her act this way.
How could she hurl insults so easily, after being wrong from the start?
While I was re-evaluating my relationship with her, I heard footsteps approaching.
My daughter, who was next to me, reacted first.
She tugged on my hand, moving forward.
“Auntie Emily…Auntie Emily, hold me…wanna play…”
Auntie Emily?
I looked up after hearing my daughter.
I noticed the quick footsteps, it was Emily.
She found us!
Ignoring my daughter, Emily came closer with a face full of anger, grabbing my shoulder.
“Where is he?! Take me to him!”
It’s been over an hour, and she hasn’t calmed down.
She was still going to crash my sister’s engagement as some random stranger.
I shook my shoulder, getting her hand off of me.
“The ceremony is over, it happened. Just forget about it…”
I was cut off by Emily’s yell.
“I don’t give a f*** about what you do!”
“Where is he?! Where’s my man?!”
“Tell me now! I need to see him!”
“Her man”
She’s lost her mind.
Ignoring her, I turned to leave with my daughter.
But Emily wouldn’t give up.
“Talk to me, take me to him!”
“I’m serious! I’m not kidding!”
I was always serious.
Not looking back, I kept walking.
But Emily was actually crazy.
She raised her hand, and grabbed my hair.
I immediately felt pain, my head felt like it would explode!
But she didn’t care about my pleas.
Pulling my hair, she tried to drag me back to bring her to him.
I wiggled, trying to get away.
Being dragged backwards, I wasn’t able to break free.
The sudden turn of events caught me by surprise, my daughter did not know what to do.
Chasing after me, she grabbed Emily’s hand.
“Auntie Emily, Auntie Emily, let go of mommy, she’s not feeling good…”
“I have long hair, you can pull my hair, I’ll play with you!”
My daughter still thought Emily was the same woman who would visit our house to play with her.
But she wasn’t anymore!
Emily raised her hand, hitting my daughter in the face before pushing her down.
“Get out of my way, you little brat!”
I couldn’t believe how much force she used.
My daughter fell, flying backwards.
I was going crazy!
She hurt my child!
Ignoring the pain in my head, I lost my footing, frantically reaching out.
I reached around in a daze.
Finally, I grabbed Emily’s hand pulling on my hair.
I dug my nails in with all my strength.
A scream rang out.
At the same time, the pain in my head increased.
Emily didn’t let go, even after I grabbed her.
She squeezed my hair tighter!
But at least she stopped moving forward.
I was able to stop as well.
Biting my teeth, I managed to steady myself.
Once I stabilized myself, I kicked forward.
I was wearing high heels.
The high heels made me lose my footing when she dragged me, making it hard to stand.
But the high heels were also powerful!
I kicked her with the heel.
The second I made contact, my hair was released.
A huge scream rang out, and a person fell to the ground.
I didn’t care, but I looked for my daughter.
After looking frantically, I found her.
She was lying on the floor.
Almost falling, I rushed to pick up my daughter.
Shaking, I called my daughter’s name.
Thankfully, she responded.
She started crying, calling for her mom.
That’s when I realized that only her body was on the ground.
She fell in front of a new store.
There was a deflated inflatable doll near the front.
My daughter’s head was on the doll’s foot.
Thankfully, her head hit the doll.
If she had fallen another way, her head would’ve hit the steps, with horrible consequences!
Her head was fine, but her hands were hurt.
Her palms were red and black.
Dirt and pebbles were embedded in her bloody hands.
She got hurt when she slid backwards.
Raising her hands, her eyes filled with tears.
Her face had a look of fear.
“Mommy, hurts…”
“Auntie Emily is bad, don’t like her anymore…”
Looking at her hands, I could only imagine the pain!
I picked her up, consoling her, and taking her to the nearby hospital.
I only took one step before a bag hit my back.
Emily spoke.
“Rachel, you b****, you aren’t going anywhere, stay here!”
“You hurt me, ruined my chances, you think you can leave just like that?!”
I was filled with anger, and I wanted to comfort my daughter.
It wasn’t the right time for revenge.
But hearing her voice, I couldn’t help myself.
Picking up my daughter, I quickly turned around.
I kicked Emily’s shoulder as hard as I could.
Again, with my heels.
Emily fell with her head down, hugging her shoulder in pain.
Feeling good, I raised my hand, smacking her face.
Emily’s face was red, and her cheeks were swollen.
After spitting water, I spit at her face, picking up my daughter to leave.
3.
After treating my daughter, Emily showed up with the police.
After seeing me, the police walked towards us after being pointed out by Emily.
“This woman said you assaulted her in public, preventing her from attending an engagement party.”
“Assaulting and disturbing the public, come with us.”
It sounded like a joke.
This trash had the nerve to call the police, and lie about everything that happened.
My daughter, Emily, and I were taken back to the station.
But the dark doesn’t become white.
The conflict happened near the street.
The streets weren’t busy, but it wasn’t empty either.
Every shop had a camera.
The cameras didn’t record sound, but you could easily tell what happened.
The truth came out.
But Emily was still lying.
“…I was the first one to touch her, but I had a reason to!”
“This b**** wouldn’t let me attend her engagement, so I got angry!”
“She’s not allowed to hurt me! You need to arrest her!”
But lies can only get you so far.
I showed the police the text messages I had with Emily.
The claim that I was stopping her from attending the engagement was quickly debunked.
The end result was that we were both warned, did community service, and signed an agreement.
Emily had hurt my daughter and I.
The two kicks I had, with the help of my high heels, were rough.
Emily looked like she had suffered a stroke.
There was a chance she had some internal injuries.
I don’t care if she had internal injuries, after what she did to my daughter.
I wish she would be unable to live on her own!
I wasn’t happy with the results.
But my daughter was scared, she kept asking to go home, I couldn’t wait any longer.
Because she was scared, my daughter didn’t want to leave my side.
She kept hugging me, too scared to put her feet down.
If I kept fighting, and we got detained, my daughter would not be able to handle it.
Leaving the station, I walked to my husband, who was running over with a worried face.
Emily was also leaving the station with an angry face.
She turned back and cursed, staring at me and my family.
Like a snake, her eyes were full of hate.
After making eye contact, she spit, and turned around.
My husband only knew that I had gotten into a fight, he didn’t know the details.
Looking at Emily’s expression, he was confused.
“Why is your friend here, why is she looking at you like that?”
“Wait…did you get into a fight with her?”
“What happened?!”
What happened.
My husband was asking the same thing I was thinking.
What the heck happened, I couldn’t even wrap my head around it.
An engagement, a social media post, an innocent person suddenly went crazy.
What happened!
