Chapter One

Ten years single, and suddenly Mom brings home this beefy foreign dude.

The very next day, she jets off to Europe, leaving me alone in this huge house with…him.

……

My name’s Ashley, and I just started at the performing arts high school. Word on the street is, the freshman guys are calling me the “it” girl because of my icy stare, killer cheekbones, and porcelain skin.

What they don’t know is that after my parents’ divorce, Mom kept me on lockdown. Zero dating experience.

Even though I’m a total newbie, being in high school makes me crave romance.

Especially here, where everyone’s so open. Couples are all over each other, making out in the hallways, the cafeteria, even the library.

Every time I walk by, my face burns, and my heart races. I pretend I don’t see them, but inside, I’m all flustered.

I end up binging cheesy romance novels under the covers. Total cliche, I know, but I’m dying for a boyfriend to dote on me.

Then Mom comes home, and she’s got this giant dude in tow.

“Ash, come say hi! This is Klaus. We met when I was in Zurich sourcing fabrics.”

Ever since the divorce, Mom’s been solo. I thought she’d be single forever. Never imagined she’d bring home a European boyfriend after a decade!

Our usually quiet mother-daughter space is suddenly invaded by this guy. It takes me a few seconds to snap out of it.

“What are you waiting for? Come here!”

Mom pulls me in for a hug.

I shake my head, all shy. “Hi, Klaus.”

“Ashley, what a beautiful name.” The dude follows us over and puts his arm around Mom’s shoulders, planting a kiss on her forehead. “I promise to take good care of your mother…and you.”

“Ash, you’re a grown-up. I hope you understand. Klaus and I had this instant connection. He’s amazing. He came all the way back from Switzerland with me. I hope it’s okay if he stays with us.”

So, Mom’s really into this guy. That’s the only way she’d bring him home like this.

This is the first time I’ve been this close to a foreigner.

Klaus is built like a brick house. All sculpted muscles and strong hands.

He’s got that super-pale skin, piercing blue eyes, and wavy blond hair.

He’s about Mom’s age, but his physique and those sharp features make him seriously hot. Like a total Silver Fox.

In my head, I’m giving him a solid 9/10. My mind flashes to those adult videos I see online, the kind with muscular European men.

Klaus looks exactly like the guy from those videos, and it makes my pulse pound.

“Ash? Is it okay with you?” Mom asks, seeing me space out.

I jump, worried she can read my thoughts, and nod like crazy.

“Thank you, liebling Ashley. I’m so happy you accept me!”

Klaus spreads his arms wide and pulls me into a hug.

I freeze, face bright red, feeling my heart about to explode.

Mom smiles, totally oblivious, just happy we’re getting along.

What she doesn’t see is Klaus squeezing me way too tight.

It’s brief, but I feel his chest pressing against me. This electric shock makes my head spin.

“We’re family now,” he says, totally casual, blue eyes all smiles. I don’t see anything weird, which makes me think maybe I’m just imagining things.

I’m flustered and angry, but I can’t say anything.

That chest though… I can’t stop replaying it.

How can I be thinking about Mom’s boyfriend like this?

I mentally slap myself. Total skank move.

“Ash, eat up. Klaus is cooking for you while I’m gone. Try his schnitzel. It’s legit.”

Mom’s a workaholic. She owns a boutique and does everything herself.

Sometimes she has to go to Europe to buy fabrics. That’s how she met Klaus.

“Honey, that reminds me, are you sure you want me to go to London for that trade show?”

As Mom says this, I look up and catch Klaus’s eyes.

Suddenly, I see something different in his gaze. It makes me uncomfortable, like I’m being hunted.

The thought freaks me out. I look down, focusing on my food.

“Yeah, babe, I’m trusting you to crush it!”

“I leave tomorrow, but I’ll be back ASAP.”

Mom leans over and kisses him.

“Don’t worry.”

Klaus kisses her back, and they start making out.

They’re really into each other. Mom’s so caught up, she totally forgets I’m here.

“Klaus, I love you so much!”

My hands grip the edge of my chair. I’m a nervous wreck, staring wide-eyed, face burning.

“Klaus, let’s go upstairs.”

Mom finally notices I’m in the room. She realizes it’s too public, and tells him to leave the dining room.

Klaus picks her up and carries her towards the bedroom.

My eyes follow them. As he kicks the door shut, I swear I see Klaus smirk.

I take a couple of deep breaths, trying to stay calm, and slip into my own room.

I collapse on my bed, pulling the covers over my head, images of Mom and her boyfriend flashing through my mind.

“Wait, the walls are thin. Ashley might hear…”

That sounds like Mom, her voice muffled.

I sit up, ear pressed to the wall, trying to make out what they’re saying.

“Honey, aren’t you happy right now?”

Klaus’s voice is loud and clear, super deep and resonant.

“Klaus, please stop!”

Mom’s voice is almost a whimper, just like in those videos.

My body starts to react… My mind is going crazy.

Time stops. Then, silence.

I lie back, exhausted, and drift off to sleep.

The next morning, I sleep in, but Mom’s already gone to the airport.

Just me and Klaus.

“Ashley, I’m taking care of you now. Your mom’s on her way.”

Klaus doesn’t even seem awkward about last night. He walks out of the kitchen.

“Yeah, okay.”

I mumble, not meeting his eyes. I don’t want those thoughts to creep back in.

“Ashley, are you avoiding me?”

Klaus sits next to me, sounding amused.

“Did you hear something last night?”

My face burns. I try to get up, breakfast forgotten.

As I turn, Klaus grabs my arm, yanking me into his chest. I gasp, trying to pull away.

“What are you doing?”

“Ashley, you’re gorgeous. Just like your mom. So… attractive.”

Klaus’s hand slowly brushes my cheek…

This is too much. I’m terrified.

Those blue eyes are intense, almost hypnotic.

“Klaus, let me go!”

I finally manage to wriggle away.

I’ve imagined this, but he’s Mom’s boyfriend.

As hot as he is, I feel like I’m betraying her if I have these thoughts.

Klaus grabs me again. His hands are everywhere.

I shiver, losing control.

I feel shame.

“Ashley, do you like this? Don’t hold back. Tell me you want more.”

With all my strength, I turn and twist my body to save myself from his grip, to save us from our demise.

However, my reaction in Klaus’s eyes becomes my invitation.

My eyes begin to glaze.

“Stop…”

He actually pauses.

“Ashley? If you want more, you have to ask.”

When I think it’s finally over, he smirks and goes back.

I muster all my strength, just to keep my sanity.

Klaus is doing this on purpose.

His warm breath covers my face, filled with a strong, masculine aroma.

I turn my face away, to stop myself from falling. My mind tells myself, that I must stop this madness.

“Please don’t.”

The electricity courses through me. The little bit of sanity that returned, is now gone, I want to cry.

“Ashley, do you want more?”

Klaus knows how to play this game!

With his manipulation, I feel like a dam about to break, I can’t help but be submissive.
