The Return of the Queen After Rebirth

Chapter 1
Okay, so, Jason “Jay” Bradford, Jr. – total trust fund baby and local influencer – kicks the bucket.
Dies in what you might call a “medical mishap.”
And my fiancé of three freakin’ years, Chad, decides to throw me under the bus to protect his precious little intern.
I end up with two broken legs courtesy of some enraged fans.
Then, I get slapped with a manslaughter charge and rot in prison.
Lovely.
Then I wake up and BOOM. I’m back.
Back to the day that intern screws everything up.
1.
Massive pileup on the highway.
Chad’s looking stressed.
“Patient’s got blood backing up into his lungs. Needs a chest tap, stat!”
“Traffic’s a nightmare; we can’t get him back to the ER in time. Someone get me a needle!”
Little Miss Sunshine, Tiffany, practically leaps forward.
“Dr. Hamilton, let me do it! I just learned this!”
She shoves me out of the way while I’m trying to bandage another patient.
I almost ate asphalt, but whatever.
Chad hesitates, which is surprising.
“Tiffany, uh, this patient’s kind of a big deal. If something goes wrong…”
“Maybe I should handle this one?”
Chad and I have been together for three years.
We were the golden couple in med school.
But I always played the supportive girlfriend role, so everyone thinks Chad is the medical genius, the whiz kid who became an attending before he even hit thirty.
When there’s a high-risk procedure, everyone looks to him.
Especially when the patient is Jay Bradford, Jr..
Because he’s hot, rich, and his family basically runs the damn city.
Saving his life is like cashing in a favor with the freaking Medicis.
Tiffany’s practically drooling at the chance to make connections.
“Oh, Chad, please?” Tiffany bats her eyelashes.
“You’ll be right there, walking me through it!”
“Alright,” Chad nods, after a whole two seconds of deliberation.
“It’s an emergency situation, but it’s not rocket science. Just watch me.”
“Thank you, Dr. Hamilton!” Tiffany practically squeals.
“Think it through, Tiff,” I chime in, unable to help myself.
“The risk isn’t astronomical, but for a newbie like you, one wrong move and you could seriously screw this guy up.”
I said the same thing last time, and they blew me off.
I thought that, with Chad around, everything would be fine.
I ended up walking away to help the other patients.
Tiffany finishes the chest tap, gets splattered with blood, and lets out a banshee scream.
Chad is all over her, comforting her.
Then, he sends me back to the hospital with the patient.
And that’s when everything goes to hell.
Turns out Tiffany punctured Jay’s lung.
She didn’t flag the issue, the patient never got the proper care and eventually passed away.
Idiotic mistake.
And the victim was a freakin’ Bradford.
The Bradfords went to war.
Jay’s rabid fanbase camped out at the hospital, demanding justice.
And what did I do?
Like the naive idiot I was, I actually tried to defend Tiffany.
Chad and Tiffany swore I did the chest tap!
They claimed they tried to stop me.
They said I was just trying to show off and suck up to the Bradfords.
Even the ambulance nurse and driver backed them up.
Conveniently, the camera in the ambulance malfunctioned.
I was screwed, plain and simple.
The hospital fired me, and the medical board revoked my license.
Then, Jay Bradford’s crazed fans broke my legs.
The Bradfords sued me, I was convicted of medical manslaughter, and they even paid off some inmates to finish me off in prison.
All to avenge some trust fund baby.
And to add insult to injury.
Jay’s fans scattered my ashes in the street, hoping I would be ran over for all eternity.
As a ghost, I watched Chad and Tiffany steal my research.
Published it in a medical journal, and Tiffany became a medical star just like Chad.
They got married, and everyone thought they were just the cutest couple ever.
Tiffany snuggled up to Chad, grinning.
“Honey, that Dr. Miller is finally dead. It’s a load off my chest.
If she had still been around, it would’ve annoyed me forever.”
Chad kissed her on the forehead and looked at her with so much love.
“It’s alright, baby. It’s a day of celebration, so let’s forget about her. From now on, I’ll love you forever.”
My heart shattered.
Those two not only ruined my life but also stepped on my corpse on the way up!
I wanted to kill them!
But then… I woke up.
I was back in the ambulance, heading to the accident site.
Tiffany wanted to be a hero.
Just like before, nobody listened to me.
Chad gave me a withering look.
“What’s the big deal? Tiffany needs practice. With me here, nothing can go wrong.”
“Besides, Tiffany is smart. She’s nothing like you.”
I was his freaking girlfriend, but he didn’t even hesitate to put me down to lift up Tiffany.
Unbelievable.
I hid my rage and laughed.
“I was just worried about the patient’s safety. What if Tiffany screws up and he dies?”
“Chad, look at her,” Tiffany whined, pouting.
Chad frowned at me, looking disgusted.
“Stop bullying the intern! You’re just jealous because you have a few more years of experience!”
“Why don’t you go treat the other patients and quit picking on Tiffany!”
The nurse decided to take their side.
“Dr. Miller, just let Tiffany try. Dr. Hamilton won’t let anything bad happen.”
For some reason, everyone at the hospital worshipped Chad.
He said jump, and even the chief of staff asked how high.
Plus, Chad was hot, and all the young nurses were practically throwing themselves at him.
“Fine,” I said, nodding.
Just like before, I went to bandage the other patients.
Tiffany gave me a smug little smile.
“Dr. Miller, instead of plotting, you should work on improving yourself.”
“You graduated the same year as Dr. Hamilton, but you’re still just a resident.”
“Tiffany, come on,” Chad interrupted.
“Don’t waste your breath. Let’s do this chest tap.”
He started showing Tiffany how to position herself and said solemnly, “You’re nothing like Dr. Miller. You’ll be better than her in no time! With Dr. Miller’s skill, she’ll probably only be a resident for the rest of her life.”
I listened to Chad insult me without expression.
This guy was my classmate from college, my boyfriend of three years, and my almost-fiancé. Now, he was trying to grind me into dust.
I used to wonder if Tiffany had something I didn’t.
But now, I realize that when we started dating, he would bring up the cute and bubbly intern, Tiffany.
He always had a sparkle in his eye when he talked about her.
After Tiffany came to our hospital, Chad blatantly favored her and publicly made me look bad to promote Tiffany.
I used to tell myself he was just being nice to the intern.
But it was all a lie.
Chad never loved me, so why would he care about my feelings?
I pretended to sit down for a break, propped my phone up with my elbow, only showing the camera, and started filming the ambulance.
Traffic was a disaster.
The ambulance had barely arrived before it got rear-ended, and the cops were still trying to clear everything.
The injuries to my patients, other than Jay, were not that bad.
The nurse was doing some emergency care, so no one noticed my moves.
Chad and Tiffany were smiling at each other and flirting.
You would’ve thought they were on a date instead of in an ambulance.
I finally understood why Tiffany made such a stupid mistake with Chad around.
They weren’t even paying attention.
That poor Jay Bradford never had a chance.
He was just bleeding in his lungs because of the impact, but Tiffany made it so much worse.
Tiffany finished her chest tap, but her bad posture caused blood to splash on her face. She screamed, and Chad held her, comforting her.
“It’s alright, Tiffany. It’s just an accident! Let me clean it up for you!”
Traffic was finally clear.
Chad helped Tiffany out of the ambulance and ordered me.
“Dr. Miller, get in and take the patient to the hospital!”
I didn’t argue.
I tucked away my phone and went into the ambulance.
Back at the hospital, everyone was a mess because of the accident.
It was almost ten at night before I had time to sit down and order takeout.
But then, someone put a lunchbox in front of me.
“Dr. Miller, you were so busy today. You probably didn’t have time to eat, right?”
It was Billy, one of the new interns.
The hospital had assigned him to me, and he was always so cute and cheerful.
I opened the lunchbox.
It had two entrees and two side dishes.
I felt so warm inside.
“Thank you.”
Billy smiled.
“No problem! I saved it for you at the cafeteria this afternoon. I knew you would be too busy to eat today!”
I was just about to eat.
Then, I saw Tiffany walk in with Chad, and she started.
“Dr. Miller, you’re so lucky. We’ve all been working hard and starving.”
“But you got someone to get you lunch. You must have so much charm!”
She coughed and said in a loud voice, “This kid brings you lunch and drinks all the time. A young guy with a high-class girl. How cute!”
“Are you two…dating?”
Everyone started staring.
Everyone at the hospital knew that Chad was my boyfriend.
Billy’s face turned red.
“Tiffany, stop it! Dr. Miller is my mentor, and I just wanted to thank her for everything she taught me.”
Tiffany continued to make jokes.
“Well, is it because you respect her or because you wanna get with her?”
I waved my hand.
“It’s alright, Billy. Don’t listen to her.”
“Some people only know how to be mean, and their brains are dirtier than a sewer.”
“You!” Tiffany’s face turned red with anger.
Chad frowned and looked at me.
“Dr. Miller, why are you being so mean all of a sudden?”
“I learned from the best,” I said calmly.
“I’m just joking. Isn’t that your favorite thing to do, Tiffany?”
She had tried to accuse me like this.
But then she would act all sad and say she was just joking.
Tiffany looked like she was about to explode.
Suddenly, she clutched her forehead and lost her balance. Chad caught her, looking worried.
“Tiffany, what’s wrong?”
Then, he yelled at me.
“Dr. Miller, don’t you know that Tiffany isn’t feeling well? Apologize!”
“It’s nothing, Dr. Hamilton,” Tiffany said weakly. “I’m just too tired. I have low blood sugar.”
Chad immediately walked over and tried to take my lunchbox.
“Tiffany has low blood sugar. She can have your lunch, and you can get something else!”
His audacity made me laugh.
I immediately closed the lunchbox and held it close.
“Why should I give it to her? I’m hungry, too! Chad, anyone would think that Tiffany is your girlfriend!”
Chad frowned even more.
“Don’t get sarcastic with me! Tiffany and I are just friends! You’re a senior, so why can’t you let a junior eat first?”
“Give me the lunch!”
I rolled my eyes and stood up with my lunch.
“Get lost!”
My words caused Chad’s face to turn dark.
He said angrily, “Dr. Miller! I’m your boss, and I’m ordering you to give your lunch to Tiffany!”
He had started with guilt tripping but then started to try to use his position.
I didn’t listen.
Tiffany pretended to be sad.
“It’s alright, Chad. We don’t need to fight. It’s her boyfriend’s lunch, so I don’t want to eat it.”
That girl.
I rolled my eyes and walked off.
Just then, the chief of staff ran in with a worried look.
“Who’s Dr. Bradford’s doctor? Come here!”
Chad and Tiffany looked at each other and ran out.
Jay Bradford suddenly had heart failure, and the ER was in chaos.
I ate slowly.
Everything was happening just like last time.
The chief of staff was experienced, and he realized that Jay Bradford had a chest tap that had been done incorrectly.
He yelled, “Are you all useless?”
“Who did the chest tap? Don’t you know that air can’t get in when you’re doing the procedure? Come to a meeting!”
Jay Bradford was popular online because he was in a car accident that ruined a 30 million dollar car.
He was the national heartthrob.
Now, someone had leaked that he was in critical condition.
The fans were freaking out online and saying that we were killing him.
The fans were camping outside the hospital, demanding to see their oppa.
The Bradfords had sent someone, too.
